On October 20, the 2024 Mita-Kai Homecoming Day (Keio Rengo Mita-Kai Taikai) was held at Hiyoshi Campus. Many Keio alumni and their families came for the event, making it a day fit for this year's slogan, "Okaeri (Welcome Home)".
The Mita-Kai Homecoming Day (Keio Rengo Mita-Kai Taikai) is an annual homecoming event organized at Hiyoshi Campus for all Keio alumni to gather, mingle, and catch up with old friends. At the Hiyoshi Commemorative Hall, the main venue of the event, the commemorative ceremony was followed by a panel on the recovery efforts in the Noto Peninsula, titled "2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake: Ten Months On—Let's Cheer for Noto!" During the panel, it was emphasized that even as media coverage of the affected areas is decreasing, it is vital that we continue to take an active interest in the recovery efforts as citizens, seeing that there is still no end in sight for the reconstruction process. Students from the AI and Advanced Programming Consortium (AIC) also conducted a demonstration involving a hands-on session with an AI version of Fukuzawa Yukichi to delve into the two volumes of Gakumon no susume (An Encouragement of Learning), providing deep insights for the new era. In addition, there were many family and kid-friendly programs organized, such as track and field experiential activity, cheerleading class, and parent-child lacrosse, attracting the enthusiastic participation of many families. Various other activities were held at the Fourth Building and Kyosei-kan Collaboration Complex, including a Mita-Kai band concert and lectures. A special stage was also set up to host talks and performances for visitors to enjoy and soak in the ambience. Many food stalls lined the campus grounds, allowing visitors to enjoy delicious snacks while socializing and interacting with each other, forming bonds across generations.
In the afternoon, a special panel was held, hosted by newscaster Takahiko Fujii and Sho Sakurai, followed by a live performance by singer Yo Hitoto. To bring the event to a close, the grand finale was held at the Hiyoshi Commemorative Hall, where everyone stood shoulder to shoulder to sing the Keio Sanka. After a fun-filled day of memorable reunions, participants headed home with smiles on their faces, promising to reunite again next year.
