On January 11, Keio University Hospital deployed a Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT), consisting of one doctor, two nurses, and two coordination staff members, to provide medical support to the disaster areas centered on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. As one of the teams from the 5th group of DMATs dispatched by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, they will conduct medical activities for five days starting from January 13.
Keio University will continue to provide medical support and other relief efforts for the earliest possible recovery of the affected areas.
※What is DMAT (Disaster Medical Assistance Team)?
DMAT refers to "a trained and mobile medical team capable of operating in the acute phase of a disaster." Specifically, they are professionally-trained medical teams comprised of doctors, nurses, and other staff with the ability to move and commence their operations generally within 48 hours (the acute phase) of a large-scale disaster, an accident involving multiple sick or injured people, or a similar event. Keio University Hospital is a designated Japan DMAT medical institution.
