To all students, faculty, and staff members,
An outbreak of pneumonia associated with the 2019 Novel Coronavirus is currently affecting many patients, primarily in China. It has been confirmed that the virus is transmitted from person to person through close contact.
As influenza is also prevalent at this time of the year, please get into a strict routine/habit of regularly washing your hands (upon returning home, before meals, etc.). If you have any symptoms including a cough, sneezing, a runny nose, sore throat, or a fever, please ensure that you wear a mask.
Anybody who is scheduled to travel to China should reexamine the necessity of their travel plans and consider cancelling or postponing their trip. If you have recently travelled to China, please pay special attention to your health in the weeks following your return to Japan. If you feel unwell, please contact the medical institution you wish to visit before you go to receive a medical examination. Be sure to indicate that you recently travelled to China when you contact the medical institution.
Furthermore, the 2019 Novel Coronavirus infection has been classified as a "designated infectious disease" by the Japanese government and is therefore deemed to be a "Class I Infectious Disease" as stipulated in the School Health and Safety Act. If by any chance you have been confirmed to be infected with the virus, please notify the Keio University Health Center immediately.
Information concerning pneumonia associated with the new coronavirus is being updated regularly on the Keio University Health Center website. Please be sure to frequently visit the page for the latest news.
