To all Keio students, faculty, and staff members,

There are currently many patients infected with the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, primarily in China, and it has been confirmed that the infection is transmitted from human to human through close contact. As influenza is also prevalent at this time of the year, please enforce a strict regimen of hand hygiene (regular washing, disinfection, etc.). If you have any symptoms including a cough, sneezing, a runny nose, sore throat, or a fever, please ensure that you wear a mask.

According to the infection danger level that is set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Chinese mainland is level 2 (please stop all non-urgent and unnecessary travel). Keio students, faculty, and staff members are in principle prohibited from travelling to China until the danger level is lowered from the current level of 2.

Keio students, faculty, and staff members who have returned to Japan from China within the last two weeks are requested to follow the steps below (refer to figure below):

Please check whether or not you have a fever (37.5 degrees Celsius or above) or any respiratory symptoms (cough, breathing difficulties, etc.).

If you have symptoms, please avoid contact with other people, wear a mask, and immediately consult your local public health center or the Keio University Health Center on your affiliated campus by phone.

If you do not have symptoms, please continue to strictly monitor your health for a period of two weeks following your return to Japan. Please wear a mask when you go outside. Additionally, persons who stayed in Hubei Province or who had contact with someone who stayed in Hubei Province are prohibited from coming to the university or place of work for a period of two weeks following their return to Japan. If any symptoms arise within two weeks of returning to Japan, please avoid contact with other people, wear a mask, and immediately consult your local public health center or the Keio University Health Center on your campus by phone. If no symptoms arise within two weeks of returning to Japan, the period of observation for possible infection will come to an end.

The 2019 Novel Coronavirus has been classified as a "designated infectious disease" by the Japanese government and is therefore deemed to be a "Class I Infectious Disease" as stipulated in the School Health and Safety Act. If by any chance you have been diagnosed as infected with the disease or are suspected of being infected, please immediately notify the Keio University Health Center and refrain from coming to the university or place of work until you receive permission to do so from your attending doctor.
