A ceremony to confer an honorary doctorate on Mr. Tim Brown, CEO of IDEO Inc., was held from 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 1 at the Mita Public Speaking Hall (Mita Enzetsu-kan.)
Tim, who is a designer and is also known as an evangelist for design thinking, has since the year 2000 served as the CEO of IDEO Inc., a design strategy consulting company. He has additionally played a decisive role in the forging and maintaining of steadfast ties between our organizations through his part in the implementation by IDEO Inc. and Keio of workshops relating to design thinking and through the management of the Global Innovation Design Program, both of which have centered on the Graduate School of Media Design (KMD). Keio University decided to confer the Doctorate Honoris Causa upon him in high recognition of these achievements.
At the conferral ceremony, the strains of the Wagner Society’s rendition of the Alma Mater "The Juku-ka" rang out as Mr. Brown made his entrance, with Professor Keiko Okawa of KMD serving as the master of ceremonies, and Dean Masahiko Inakage reading the citation. Next, President Haseyama delivered a formal address at the ceremony after conferring the Doctorate Honoris Causa upon Mr. Brown, who responded with an expression of his gratitude.
In addition, Mr. Brown gave a keynote speech the following day, Friday, November 2, at the KMD FORUM 2018 held on Hiyoshi Campus titled "A New Age of Design ― How might we design differently in the future?" The event was very well attended, in particular by students.
